The old pilgrimage village of Little Walsingham is one of the hidden gems of rural England, nestling as it does in the Stiffkey river valley close to the beautiful North Norfolk coast.
The Old Gatehouse B&B is the first house in the village: no.s 1&3 High Street. It's a comfortable home full of character, dating back at least 400 years and incorporating elements of the former Franciscan monastery in the house and garden. Its friendly atmosphere has been coupled with comforts that bring the place well into the 21st century.
All the rooms come with tea and coffee-making facilities; bath and hand towels are provided; and the beds have traditional handmade mattresses and electric blankets. You can expect to have a very good night's sleep: the stars are very visible when the night skies are clear, it's quiet, and it's not unusual to hear an owl hoot!
The breakfasts use produce that is sourced within 30 miles or is organic where feasible.
There is much to do and enjoy for everyone in and around Little Walsingham, whether it be: lighting a candle at the Walsingham Shrine; saddling up and going horse riding; tucking into fish and chips or game pie at the Walsingham Estate's restaurant, The Norfolk Riddle; or taking the miniature railway to Wells-next-the-Sea and finding a sunbathing patch on its adjacent and spectacular Holkham beach. Heritage explorers, pilgrims, artists and families alike will find enough to be getting on with here.
